Wofford Burt Appellate Team’s Win Makes National News

A decision by the Court of Appeals reversing a Mecklenburg County trial judge’s order made national news this week. The appellate decision in Green v. Carter, COA22-494, holds that a same-sex couple should be treated the same as a heterosexual couple in the payment of child support. Wofford Burt Appellate Attorneys Hunt and Rebecca Wofford represented Ms. Tricosa Green on appeal. Ms. Green had been ordered to pay child support for a child born through IVF to her romantic partner even though Ms. Green was not a biological or adoptive parent and had not agreed in writing to financially provide for the child. A man in a heterosexual relationship would not have been required by law to pay child support under the same facts. An article about this case may be viewed here
